Chief Mountain

photos by Kristen > travel photos > Glacier National Park, Montana

Chief Mountain is located on the eastern border of Glacier National Park and the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. See the wikipedia article. It is very striking because it rises suddenly to 5000 feet above the plain. I took a tour with a guide from Blackfeet Outfitters and he told me all about how sacred it was. It was also really beautiful! Especially because a storm just hit, and then a full rainbow just behind us. The vertical shape of it reminded me of Devils Tower, famous from Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
